Pot drainage - what a load of crock?

The jury's out! Don't bother putting gravel or a thick layer of crock at the bottom of your pot before you fill it with soil. For years the myth has persisted that it helps with drainage, however, in reality it only drives up the water table, essentially drowning the roots of your plant.
WHAT A LOAD OF CROCK!?!?
However! As Richard has advised over the years, you can place a tiny teepee of crock over the drainage hole in order to prevent the soil from clogging. Just not a whole lot! That would be a load of crock.
